Beginners & Beyond: Ceramics
Laura Piquado
Mondays, February 17 – April 7, 2025
5:30pm – 8:30pm
In this class, designed for both beginning potters and those looking to continue and expand beyond their introductory skills, we will start to explore the diverse possibilities of form. We will work on different altering techniques, as well as how to incorporate handles, lids and feet. Both wheel and hand-building will be utilized, and you will have ample class time to practice and refine these two very different, yet complementary ways of making.
This workshop is comprised of 8 working sessions (3hrs) PLUS one final pick-up day (1hr). We will be using red stoneware clay.
Students should bring:
- An Apron
- A Hand-towel
Practice Studio: Thursdays, Feb. 20 – Apr. 10 / 9:30am – 12:30pm. $100
Students registered for the ‘Beginners & Beyond’ workshop may also choose to register for ‘Practice Studio’ sessions for an additional fee. During these self-guided practice sessions, you will be able to further explore skills learned during your workshop. A ceramics professional, Laura Piquado, will be on-hand to offer guidance; however, this is not a class. You will be responsible for all elements of your practice time, from cleaning up your wheel/workspace, to loading up your shelf and covering your work. These sessions are meant to be used to practice your skills, but, not to facilitate any commercial production.
Materials included: One sleeve of brown stoneware clay, a selection of glazes and underglazes, and access to firings.
