Saturdays, January 31, 10am – 12pm (Intro Class)
& February 14, 21 & 28, 10am – 2pm (Work Sessions)
Start up your sewing machine! In this beginner-friendly quilt course, we’ll make a traditional block, the Log Cabin. When you think of the word “quilt,” this is the pattern that may come to mind. It’s been made by women for generations. And yet, there’s something about it that appeals to the contemporary eye: its mix of light and dark, its bright centre (symbolic of house and home) and the many variations that this block inspires.
This class entails familiarity with a sewing machine, and ability to sew straight 1⁄4” seams.
Please Note:
- Intro Class on January 31st: Bring a notepad and pen. All other materials can be brought on February 14th.
- Please wait to purchase fabric until after the intro class. You’ll discuss your quilt with Marilyn Smulders and have two weeks before the next class to buy fabric.
- A 30-minute lunch break will be given during the Feb 14 – 28 classes. Feel free to bring a lunch, the LSA has a fridge and microwave for your use.
Students should bring: (LSA will have some rotary cutters, cutting mats, and quilting rulers for students who don’t have these items):
- Sewing Machine
- Rotary cutter with sharp blade
- Cutting mat (at least 24” x 18”)
- Large quilting ruler (6” by 24”) for measuring and cutting
- Cotton thread to match background fabric (To be purchased after your intro class)
- Fabric Yardage – 100% cotton or cotton/linen recommended. This should be washed and ironed before the second class (To be purchased after your intro class)
