May 27, 2025
In consideration of the recent lack of respect shown by the administration of the United States towards Canada, its sovereignty and its elected public officials, our School shall mount an exhibit of visual works of art entitled “ELBOWS UP!” (en français “LES COUDES ELÉVÉS!”) *
We hereby announce an “Open Call” for artists to submit to our School one piece of visual art that is appropriate for inclusion in the “ELBOWS UP!” theme. The deadline for submission is Tuesday May 27th, 2025.
Since 2014 our School has enjoyed working with numerous artists and instructors of courses and workshops and we hope that each of them may submit a piece of art for consideration in this exhibition.
This exhibition will be curated, and the artworks submitted will be juried for inclusion. Artists will be notified of their acceptance of the artwork and installation details by Friday June 6th.
“ELBOWS UP!” will open on Thursday, June 19th, 7pm, and will run until Thursday July 10th (overlapping Canada Day, of course).
As a guide we are looking for artworks that celebrate Canada’s sovereignty and democracy, and that reflect Canada’s unique culture, diversity, and strength, and what it means to stand together as an independent nation.
We ask that each artwork be submitted in a single email to learn@lunenburgarts.org, subject line “ELBOWS UP!” Exhibition, and that it include the following:
- Artist Statement about the work and its connection with the theme. (200 words maximum);
- High resolution image(s) of the work (JPEG, PNG, or PDF); and,
- Details of the work including title, dimensions, medium and date.
* “ELBOWS UP!” is the phase commonly used in connection with the great Canadian game of hockey – as in, elbows up to protect your possession of the puck, or elbows up to defend yourself from an oncoming opponent.
