The Calm Before the Storm is a project produced by Hannah Genosko during her Artist Residnecy at the Lunenburg School of the Arts. The project centres around the anxiety, preparation and fear of the unknown that comes in anticipation of potentially severe weather events. Reflecting specifically on Hurricane Dorian last year, the work examines anxiety and helplessness, overconsumption and obsessive checking of contradictory and unhelpful social media sources. Genosko works using etching and linocut techniques to make prints, which were produced at the Mahone Bay Printmakers Association.

During the residency a second project that emerged alongside, titled The Other Miracle of Fish. It is a series of seven drawings that depicts a mischievous figure dressed all in black who goes on a dream-like adventure under the ocean.
