10:00am – 4:00pm
This workshop will cover basic painting techniques: colour, composition, and ways to apply paint- expressionist, impressionist and a little abstraction. Subject matter will include still life, landscape and florals. Heather will demo each day and there will be daily visual presentations. This workshop is for both beginning painters and those who want to build further on their skills. Come and have a party with paint at LSA.
Students should bring:
- Oil (or acrylic) paint- titanium white, naphthol crimson or scarlet lake, cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue ( +yellow ochre, sap green, cerulean blue ) in brackets are optional.
- Linseed oil, odourless thinner and two mason jars with lids for oil painters. (Linseed oil can be bought at hardware store and odourless paint thinner at Printer’s Corner).
- 3 or 4 long handle hogs hair flat brushes – # 6, # 8
- Palette paper
- Canvases – 8×10, 10×12 , and a couple larger such as 16×16 (dollar store quality is fine)
- 1” angled house paint brush (hardware store quality)

Heather Sayeau
Heather Sayeau received her Bachelor of Fine Art and Bachelor of Education from NSCAD University in Halifax in 1981, and taught Fine and Media Arts at NSCAD alongside her practice for thirty years. Sayeau is an oil painter with a focus on landscape, still life, and the figure. She has participated in solo and group exhibitions since 1982 and her work appears in public and private collections across Canada and abroad.
