Participants will learn the traditional processes of transferring plants directly onto fabric in 2 different methods, Tataki Zome and Eco Printing. Various flowers and leaves will be provided for use. Participants are encouraged to bring their own flowers and plants to try. Everyone will create 1 cotton scarf square (24”) and 1 cotton towel (22” x 33”). Participants may also bring their own pre-mordanted natural fibre items (cotton, linen, silk, wool).

Joanna Close

Joanna Close’s art practice explores the rural imagery of landscapes and domestic life through textiles and illustration. Dyeing, weaving, silk-screen printing, rug hooking, drawing and stitching are the mediums with which she works. Recent years have yielded extensive research in the creation and application of natural dyes from plant, mineral and insect sources.

Joanna completed a BFA in Textiles from NSCAD University in 2004 and an MA in Textile Art from the Winchester School of Art in 2006. She is a part time faculty member at NSCAD University where she primarily teaches dye and print based classes in the Textiles Department.
