The focus of this program will be on skill development. As such, the emphasis will be on building an awareness of self on stage and developing your own creative voice. We will rely heavily on vocal and physical work, and a variety of exercises which you will explore in class. From character development and monologue work, as well as scene studies with your fellow actors, you will challenge yourselves to take risks, establish connections, explore, collaborate, build confidence, create and imagine.
Please note:
- This class does not include a public performance.
- Students are welcome to arrive from 3pm.
Students should bring:
- Clothes for movement
- A water bottle
- Snacks are welcome

Laura Piquado
Laura Piquado is proud union member of Actors’ Equity Association and has been a professional actor for 25 years. With a degree in acting and performance from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (London, UK), she has performed in off-Broadway and regional theatres across the US. A few of her acting credits include: Goneril/ King Lear, Luciana/The Comedy of Errors (Texas Shakespeare Festival); Perdita/The Winter’s Tale (Hampton Shakespeare Festival); Charlotte/Sunlight (New Jersey Repertory Theatre, World Premiere). Laura was also a company member with the NYC-based Phoenix Theatre Ensemble for 12 years performing in shows from Chekhov, Sartre and Ibsen to Michael Frayn and Tennessee Williams.
In addition to being an actor, Laura has taught drama (East Village Community School, NYC, after-school program), has been an acting coach, and has worked on the production side of shows as assistant director, stage manager, light & sound runner, and professional audition reader.
Laura’s wider teaching experience includes teaching English (The Working Boys Center, Quito, Ecuador), and swimming instruction (various). More recently in Lunenburg she ran the cursive writing program at the Lunenburg library, co-runs the Young Chefs cooking program, has been a pottery instructor and has taught the Youth Art Week for the past four summers at the LSA.
Laura has a degree in political science and international relations, and an MA in Islamic Studies from McGill University.
