This beginner-friendly program is designed to teach foundational drawing techniques in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Students will be encouraged to step out of their heads and into a creative flow through daily drawing exercises and studies.
The program covers essential drawing fundamentals, including shape, perspective, proportion, composition, shading, texture, and mark-making. Students will experiment with charcoal, graphite, pencil, and conté crayon while creating studies ranging from still lifes to landscapes.
By the end of the course, students will complete a final project that brings together the techniques and concepts they have learned.
Students should bring:
- A range of graphite pencils (4H, 2B, 6B) (the LSA will have some on hand)
- Compact charcoal crayons or sticks (the LSA will have some on hand)
- White and kneadable erasers (the LSA will have some on hand)
- A pad of mixed media paper, drawing paper, or Bristol board (11” x 14” or larger)

Maggie Cappelletti
Maggie Cappelletti is a professional artist and dedicated art educator based in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Known for her large, immersive abstract paintings, Maggie’s work serves as a vibrant visual diary of her life. Maggie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her work has been exhibited internationally. With over seven years of teaching experience, Maggie is passionate about inspiring creativity in both children and adults. In the classroom, she fosters an open and supportive environment where experimentation is encouraged. Her teaching philosophy—rooted in the belief that “nothing is too precious”—empowers students to take creative risks, explore new materials, and discover their unique artistic voices.
