Creative Writing for Kids with WFNS

Linda Hudson & the WFNS
Monday to Friday, July 19 – July 23, 2021
10:00am – 4:00pm

This workshop for ages 11-13, will be an adventure into expanding the creative mind, and expressing it through images and the written word. Participants will discover and explore character development, build description through observation, and play with figurative language. The classes will delve into different genres and styles of writing, including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels. Camps will feature visits by professionally published authors who are valued participants in the WFNS’ “Writers in the Schools” program, and have in-depth experience working with tweens and teens. Classes will be a mixture of classroom activities and outdoors adventures to promote physical activity and imaginative play.

Registration includes a Lunenburg School of the Arts tote bag and lined notebook for each participant.

Students should bring:

  • Lunch
  • Sunscreen
  • Preferred writing tools (if they have any, but NOT a computer unless used specifically for learning aid.)

Linda Hudson & the WFNS

The Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia (WFNS) is an arts service organization founded on a collaborative philosophy: writers helping writers. This philosophy informs a complete cycle of development programming and a wide array of professional services that support the craft of writing, the business of being a writer, and the promotion of Nova Scotia writers as integral to the province’s cultural life and creative economy. WFNS has approximately 600 members at all career stages, who are engaged in a diverse range of forms, genres, and writing practices.

Linda Hudson earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Literature from Mount Saint Vincent University, a Masters of Arts from Acadia University, and a Masters in Library and Information Studies from Dalhousie University. She is the Arts Education Officer at the WFNS, and works part-time for the Halifax Regional Centre for Education in the Excel Program.
