This course is designed for beginners through to advance painters. We will cover basic and advanced acrylic painting techniques through guided, hands-on instruction as students work on the subject matter of their choosing. It will cover beginner and advanced acrylic painting methods, from underpainting and glazing to impasto and textural effects.
We will explore the unique, flexibilities of acrylic painting as one of the most effective mediums to develop a creative vision and painting practice. The course is designed to inspire, to challenge, and explore the infinite possibilities that acrylics offer.
Students will be asked to bring:
- Paintbrushes and/or palette-knife (various sizes).
- Five or more canvases of any size (canvas boards, pad of canvas paper, or traditional canvases, wood panels).
- Paint (white, crimson/red, yellow, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, yellow ocher), recommended brands include: Academy, Golden, Winser & Newton, or Liquitex.
- Palette for mixing paint and a water container (reusable).

William Forrestall
William Forrestall is a painter, writer, and educator. His iconic still life paintings have been recognized for their unique contribution to contemporary painting in over 150 solo and group exhibitions across Canada and internationally. His work is represented in the Canada Council Art Bank, New Brunswick Museum, The Nova Scotia Art Gallery, The New Brunswick Art Bank, The Beaverbrook Art Gallery, University of New Brunswick and other public and private collections.
He has served on numerous regional and national boards and juries, including the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board where he oversaw the disposition of over $800 million worth of art and cultural artifacts.
He has been awarded Canada Council, provincial arts grants, a Brucebo Fellowship and numerous other grants.
Forrestall teaches Painting and Drawing at St. Thomas University, in Fredricton, NB, where he also ran the University’s Yellow Box Gallery. In his role as gallery director he exhibited the art of many Maritime artists including, Jeffery Spalding, Thierry Delva, David McKay, Ann Manuel, Stephen May, John Edward Cushnie, Herménégilde Chiasson, Mathew Reichertz, and Sky Pape. He has written, edited or published over 25 books and exhibition catalogues on Canadian art and artists.
